Hearing the Story. Healing the Pain. Halting the Cycle.
Since opening our doors in 1993, we have served more than 17,500 children of suspected child sexual abuse. The Children’s Assessment Center is a nonprofit organization that coordinates the efforts of CPS, law enforcement professionals, family advocate, Prosecutor’s office, medical experts, mental health clinicians, and administrative staff under one roof. Our staff:
- collaboratively responds with our partner staff
- arranges family visits to the center, including provision of support services such as transportation
- conducts forensic interviews
- provides family advocacy and crisis intervention services
- provides mental health therapy
The Children’s Assessment Center assesses and supports child victims of suspected sexual abuse and educates children and the community to prevent such assaults. We provide interviews, assessments, medical exams, counseling, and court support. All of our services are offered in a child-friendly, sensitive, and safe environment and are free of charge to all children and non-offending family members. We serve the entire Kent County area.
To make a formal report of child sexual abuse, call Children’s Protective Services: 1-855-444-3911 or your local law enforcement.
The Center is a private, nonprofit organization funded through a partnership of government and community support and is a fully-accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance. We are a United Way Agency and receive Michigan Crime Victims Services Commission and Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board funding. All of our services are aimed at reducing trauma so that children and families may begin the healing process. The Children’s Assessment Center’s services are free of charge to every client.
