Development and Communications Director – Job Description

Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County (Grand Rapids, MI) is seeking a full-time Development & Communications Director for fundraising, donor cultivation, communications, and public relations.  Activities include engaging with the media and community, corporate partnerships, donor cultivation, writing donor communications, maintaining donor database, creating annual development and communications plans, grant writing, and planning monthly tours and annual spring fundraising luncheon.  Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited agency or equivalency and must have minimum five years’ experience working in fund development, communications, and grant writing, with experience in Benevon model preferred. Proficiency in social media communications (across all platforms) and Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel, required.  Experience with Zoom meetings, Canva, Microsoft Publisher, and DonorPerfect preferred.  Candidates should demonstrate ability to juggle multiple projects, conduct self in professional manner, and work well with team of volunteers and staff.  Excellent written and oral communication, intercultural, and interpersonal skills required. Schedule includes 35-40 hours per week on site at the CAC, generally Monday-Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Some evenings and weekends may be required.  See https://cac-kent.org/get-involved/employment-internships/ for job description.

Internships

All 2021 internships are filled at the time, as well as 2022 spring internships. 

An internship at the Children’s Advocacy Center provides a unique opportunity to learn the workings of the child welfare and criminal justice system and to better understand the dynamics of child sexual abuse. We offer two levels of internship:

Bachelor’s Level Internships

Available for individuals completing various programs including but not limited to Social Work, Child and Family Development, Criminal Justice, and Business Administration. Applicants must have enthusiasm, a willingness to take initiative, and the ability to adapt to various situations and locations within the office and out in the community. Requires proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher). All internships must be for credit and part of a class that you are currently enrolled in through a college or university.

Master’s Level Internships

Available for individuals completing a graduate program in Counseling or Social Work. Individuals who are able to complete their internship over two academic semesters are preferred. We are not currently equipped to take on Counseling Practicum students at this time and require that all interested applicants are at the Internship component of their respective graduate program.
