At the Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County, we are dedicated to creating a supportive environment, through our mission of creating safe, trauma-informed support while seeking justice for child victims of sexual assault.

Development & Communications Director

We are seeking an individual who will play a pivotal role in advancing the Center’s mission by strategically leading and overseeing both development and communication initiatives. This role is responsible for creating and implementing comprehensive strategies to enhance fundraising efforts, cultivate donor relationships, and elevate the Center’s mission and brand through effective communication channels.

Education and Experience Needed:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent relevant job experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in fund development.
  • Proficient in internet navigation, Microsoft Suite and Google Workplace.
  • Preferred experience with DonorPerfect and Canva.

Therapist

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated therapist to join our team. As a therapist at the Children’s Advocacy Center, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children who have experienced abuse. You will provide evidence-based therapy services to child victims of sexual assault and their families, helping them navigate the healing process and reclaim their sense of safety and well-being.

Education and Experience Needed:
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field required.
  • Full licensure from the State of Michigan in the respective discipline preferred.
  • Full certification in evidence-based trauma modality, such as TF-CBT, PCIT, AF-CBT, CFTSI, or EMDR, preferred.
  • Minimum of two years experience in evidence-based, trauma-informed counseling with children preferred.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of trauma, child sexual abuse, and child development required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and other relevant software.

Client Services Supervisor

The Client Services Supervisor plays a pivotal role in leading and facilitating a comprehensive support system for child victims of sexual abuse and their non-offending family members. This position is dedicated to overseeing therapeutic practices, as well as services that offer advocacy through guidance and support to clients and their families, through collaboration with a multidisciplinary team (MDT), while fostering a trauma-informed environment.

Education and Experience Needed:
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field required.
  • Full licensure from the State of Michigan in the respective discipline preferred.
  • Full certification in evidence-based trauma modality, such as TF-CBT, PCIT, AF-CBT, CFTSI, or EMDR, preferred.

Internships

At this time, the Center is not taking on any interns through December 2024. 

An internship at the Children’s Advocacy Center provides a unique opportunity to learn the workings of the child welfare and criminal justice system and to better understand the dynamics of child sexual abuse. We offer two levels of internship:

Bachelor’s Level Internships

Available for individuals completing various programs including but not limited to Social Work, Child and Family Development, Criminal Justice, and Business Administration. Applicants must have enthusiasm, a willingness to take initiative, and the ability to adapt to various situations and locations within the office and out in the community. Requires proficiency in Google Workspace. All internships must be for credit and part of a class that you are currently enrolled in through a college or university.

Master’s Level Internships

Available for individuals completing a graduate program in Counseling or Social Work. Individuals who are able to complete their internship over two academic semesters are preferred. We are not currently equipped to take on Counseling Practicum students at this time and require that all interested applicants are at the Internship component of their respective graduate programs.
