Briefly tell us about your role at the CAC.
As the Director of Development and Communications, I am responsible for fund development and communications at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County. The main roles of my position are fundraising, event planning, branding/messaging and public/media relations. I provide opportunities for the community to give to a cause that is close to their heart and create opportunities for the community to increase their awareness of child sexual abuse.
What do you want the community to know about child sexual abuse?
Talking about child sexual abuse is uncomfortable, but it’s a necessary conversation that we need to have. Too many children are hurting and too many adults are holding on to the trauma of their childhood. In order to solve a problem, we have to face it head on. I am confident that this community will take an aggressive stance against child sexual abuse and support survivors on their healing journey.
What is it about your work that keeps you here and motivated?
The tears that turn into laughter. The fear that turns into courage. The victim that turns into a survivor. The transformation that happens during each child’s healing journey is all the encouragement and motivation that I need.
What do you hope for the CAC in the future?
That one day, we will no longer have a need for our services.
